Making major changes in the administrative system, the Nepal government has taken an important decision regarding weekly holidays and office hours. In the meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Sunday, it was decided that now there will be holiday in government offices along with Saturday as well. Earlier in the country, weekly leave was given only on Saturday, but now employees will get two consecutive days off.
Giving information, government spokesperson Sasmit Pokharel said that this decision has been taken keeping in mind the current circumstances. Especially due to the problems in petroleum supply, the government has taken this step so that fuel consumption can be reduced to some extent and resources can be managed better. He also clarified that this system will be applicable to government offices as well as educational institutions, where now both Saturday and Sunday will be closed.
Along with this, the government has also changed the working timings of offices. Now government offices will remain open from 9 am to 5 pm. Earlier the timings of the offices were fixed from 10 am to 5 pm, but now the employees will have to reach the office an hour earlier. The purpose of this change is to ensure that working hours are not reduced and there is no negative impact on efficiency.
Although, separate guidelines can be issued regarding the timings of educational institutions, but the timings of 9 to 5 pm will remain applicable for general government offices. The government believes that two days leave and revised working hours will improve the productivity of employees and they will be able to work with more energy.
This new system will be implemented in the entire country from Monday. The government has instructed all the concerned departments to make necessary amendments in their functioning as per this change. Overall, this decision is being considered an important step towards increasing administrative efficiency and ensuring balanced utilization of existing resources.
