The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have always been known as a batting powerhouse in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. However, their batting lineup has recently faltered. In their first match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), they managed to score a mere 49 runs during the powerplay while losing 3 wickets.
Despite finishing with a total of 201 runs, it wasn’t enough, as RCB chased it down in just 15.4 overs. The disappointing performance in the first six overs was a key factor in SRH's defeat. Sadly, the team led by Ishan Kishan didn’t seem to learn from their mistakes. In their next match against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), they recorded the lowest powerplay score of IPL 2026.
Back at their home ground, the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, SRH faced challenging batting conditions and outstanding new-ball bowling from LSG. This led to SRH posting their fourth-lowest powerplay total in IPL history.

Mohammed Shami, who had a solid debut against the Delhi Capitals, was on fire against SRH. He utilized the pitch to his advantage, mixing in clever slower balls and cutters to take down both Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head. By the end of his second over, he had only given away 2 runs while claiming both SRH openers.
In his final over of the powerplay, Shami had Liam Livingstone in a tough spot but just couldn’t finish the job. Meanwhile, LSG captain Rishabh Pant decided to give Prince Yadav a chance with just one over at the start, and it turned out to be a game-changer. The fast bowler from Delhi managed to knock over SRH captain Ishan Kishan’s stumps.
