Sameer Rizvi on Saturday scripted a significant IPL milestone, registering the second-highest individual score by an uncapped Indian batter against Mumbai Indians. The 22-year-old Delhi Capitals batter struck 90 off 51 balls in the chase of 163 during Match 8 of IPL 2026 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, guiding DC to a six-wicket win and continuing his strong start to the season. His innings included seven fours and seven sixes, and it came at a time when Delhi had slipped early in the chase.

Second only to Jaiswal among uncapped Indians

Among uncapped Indian batters against Mumbai Indians, only Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 124 for Rajasthan Royals at Wankhede in 2023 stands above Rizvi’s 90. Jaiswal had achieved that hundred before making his India debut later the same year. Rizvi now moves past a long list of impactful cameos and half-centuries to occupy the second spot in that elite record list, underlining the weight of his knock in statistical terms.

The innings also carried match context. Delhi were under mild pressure in pursuit of 162 after early setbacks, but Rizvi rebuilt smartly before accelerating through the middle and death overs. The straight-face number that now sits beside his name is 90 from 51, but the harder fact is this: it directly altered the chase’s direction and sealed the game with 11 balls remaining.

Third-highest DC score against MI

For Delhi Capitals, Rizvi’s 90 is now the third-highest individual score against Mumbai Indians in IPL history. Only Virender Sehwag’s unbeaten 95 in Delhi in 2013 and Jason Roy’s unbeaten 91 at Wankhede in 2018 remain ahead of him in the franchise list.

That also pushes Rizvi above notable knocks from Karun Nair (89) and Jake Fraser-McGurk (84) in this fixture. The overall IPL record against Mumbai Indians, however, still belongs to AB de Villiers, whose unbeaten 133 for RCB at Wankhede in 2015 remains untouched.

For now, the numbers stay brutally simple: uncapped, 22 years old, 90 off 51, and already in the MI record books.
