A nation-wide weather warning has been issued by the as there are predictions of active weather conditions, including thunderstorm, heavy winds, hailstorm, and isolated rains, which could affect several parts of India in the upcoming days. According to the latest bulletin released at 08:06 AM on 04 April 2026, a western disturbance is causing this change in the weather, especially in northern India, but also affecting other parts of India.
Northwest India braces for severe weatherThe most affected region will be Northwest India, which includes Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and even the national capital, New Delhi. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there will be moderate to widespread rain showers along with thunderstorm activity in these regions.
The speed of wind gusts will be 40-50 kilometers per hour, with gusts reaching up to 60 kilometers per hour. In some severe cases, thundersquall might increase the wind speed to 50-60 kilometers per hour, with gusts up to 70 kilometers per hour.
Moreover, isolated hailstorm activity will be witnessed in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, East Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand on April 4. In addition to that, isolated areas of heavy rainfall will be seen in the higher regions of Jammu and Kashmir-Ladakh.
Another wet spell expected from April 7According to the report, the situation is unlikely to improve soon as a fresh Western Disturbance will start impacting the region beginning April 7, thus, leading to fresh rainfall episodes.
It is expected that the second spell will see fairly widespread rain/snowfall over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand regions, along with some rains over the plains of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and western Rajasthan. Thus, the temperature levels over Northwest India are unlikely to rise and will continue to stay below normal for the next couple of days till April 9.
Heavy rains expected over Northeast IndiaThe weather in Northeast India will also see its fair share of disturbances as scattered rains to fairly widespread rain activity is forecasted in the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya till April 9.
The hilly nature of these regions, coupled with fresh rains, could lead to issues of waterlogging. Rain with thunderstorm activities is expected to impact other northeastern states including Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura as well.
Eastern and Central India under thunderstorm influenceScattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to take place across Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Odisha. The weather will deteriorate in Bihar and Jharkhand from April 5 to April 8, resulting in thundersqualls and hailstorms. As mentioned above, the mentioned phenomenon can affect day-to-day activities and farming in Bihar and Jharkhand.
The situation is expected to deteriorate in central states. Scattered rainfalls and thunderstorms are forecasted for Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh. Isolated hail can occur during the first days of the forecast period as well.
Southern states to experience thunderstorm activitiesThe southern part of the country cannot avoid a change in weather conditions. It includes isolated to moderate rainfalls along with thunderstorms in the following states: Kerala, Telangana, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu.
Isolated heavy rains are expected in Kerala and Mahe during the first days of the forecast period. It can result in water accumulation in lowland areas.
Temperature trends show temporary reliefThis weather forecast is a reflection of the effects brought about by these weather systems. The northwestern parts of India will see a fall in the maximum temperatures by approximately 3 to 5 degrees Celsius, then an increase before another decline as the next weather system approaches.
On the other hand, the rest of the country will not experience much in terms of changes in temperature. Nonetheless, there might be some areas in the Gangetic West Bengal that may continue experiencing high temperatures and humidity levels.
