Government employees are eagerly awaiting the Eighth Pay Commission. The government has formed a committee to review the Eighth Pay Commission. In the meantime, the committee will submit its recommendations. Following this, a decision will be made on when employees' actual salary increases will occur. Meanwhile, the Eighth Pay Commission has been given 18 months to submit its recommendations.
The Eighth Pay Commission recommendations are expected to be presented in the first six months of 2027. Subsequently, employees will receive actual salary increases only after central government approval. Meanwhile, employees' suggestions for the Eighth Pay Commission recommendations will be considered, so they will be required to answer questions online. Meanwhile, the NC-JCM (Employees) has urged the Commission to include certain important issues, including those related to employee salaries, pensions, and leave.
What are the demands of the employees?
According to the NC-JCM, employees covered under the NPS and those who have opted for the UPS are facing numerous difficulties and hardships. Therefore, the contributory scheme should not be imposed on any employee.
According to the NC-JCM, the demand is to reinstate the Non-Contributory Pension Scheme under the Employees' CCS (Pension) Rules, 1972 (now 2021). Pensioners' issues have been specifically addressed. The Pay Commission stated that pension revision, parity, and commuted value should all be considered.
Demands of women employees
Women employees also have demands, including employee safety, maternity benefits, menstrual leave, childcare leave, and equal treatment in the office.
Request for extension of deadline
The Eighth Pay Commission has sought suggestions from employees. There is a demand to extend the deadline for submitting suggestions. According to the NC-JCM, unions across the country are taking time to submit their suggestions. The deadline should be extended to May 31, 2026.
