New Delhi: Chelsea have dropped midfielder Enzo Fernandez for the next two matches following the comments about his future at the club and links with Real Madrid. He will miss Chelsea’s FA Cup quarter-final clash on Saturday against Port Vale and next Premier League clash against Manchester City on Sunday, April 12.
Head coach Rosenior confirmed his decision during a press conference on Friday ahead of the FA Cup tie, stating that they’ve made a decision and Fernandez won’t be available for the next two matches.
“I spoke with Enzo an hour ago. As a football club, with me as part of that process, we’ve made a decision. He won’t be available for tomorrow’s game and he won’t be available for Manchester City next Sunday. I think for Enzo, it’s disappointing to speak in that way,” Rosenior said.
The Argentine International cast doubt on his future at Chelsea after their 8-2 aggregate loss against PSG in the Champions League. He has scored 12 goals in 46 appearances for Chelsea this season.
“I don’t know — right now, I’m thinking here. There are eight games left (in the Premier League) and the FA Cup, and then there’s the World Cup, and then we’ll see, we’ll see,” Enzo said.
In a separate interview with TUDN, Enzo said that he did not understand Chelsea’s decision to sack head coach Enzo Maresca, who was replaced by Liam Rosenior in January 2026. The midfielder praised Maresca and said that he had a very clear identity during training and while playing, and his departure hurt the players a lot.
Rosenior further added that he had no bad words to say about Enzo, but the midfielder had crossed the line in terms of their culture. Fernandez has a contract at Stamford Bridge until 2032. Chelsea are currently in sixth place in the Premier League standings.
