Rating- 3/5
Ready or Not 2 Here I Come arrives as the follow-up to the 2019 cult favourite, bringing back its signature mix of horror and dark comedy but with a much larger scale. Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the film is written by Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy and continues the story of Grace after her shocking survival in the first film.
The sequel stars Samara Weaving returning as Grace, alongside Kathryn Newton, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Elijah Wood, Shawn Hatosy, and David Cronenberg. It premiered at the South by Southwest Film & TV Festival on March 13, 2026, before releasing in theatres on April 3, 2026. Produced by Searchlight Pictures, the film expands the original concept into a wider, more complex world involving multiple powerful families and a deadly ritual game.

The film begins on a promising note. Grace, once again played by Samara Weaving, is pulled back into chaos after surviving the first nightmare. She is kidnapped along with her estranged sister Faith, played by Kathryn Newton, and forced into a new version of the game.
The concept sounds exciting on paper. Multiple powerful families are now involved, all competing to kill Grace before dawn to gain control of a secret council. It adds scale and ambition to the story. However, the plot quickly becomes complicated and, at times, confusing. If you haven’t watched the first film, it becomes even harder to follow what is happening.
Performances That Keep It WatchableSamara Weaving once again carries the film with ease. She brings the same mix of strength, humour, and chaos that made her character so memorable in the first movie. Even when the script feels weak, she keeps the film engaging.
Kathryn Newton adds a new dynamic as Grace’s sister. Their chemistry works well, and their shared history feels believable. However, the constant bickering between them starts to feel repetitive and slightly unrealistic, especially given the life-or-death situation they are in.
Among the supporting cast, Elijah Wood stands out the most. His performance feels controlled and interesting, adding some much-needed balance to the film. On the other hand, Sarah Michelle Gellar’s role feels underdeveloped and does not leave a strong impact, despite the excitement around her casting. Shawn Hatosy’s villain leans a bit too much into exaggeration, making parts of his performance feel over the top.
A Plot That Tries Too Hard

The biggest issue with the film is its story. It starts off similar to the original but soon takes a strange turn, introducing new rules and unexpected twists. One such twist involves a loophole that allows the game to end through marriage, which feels forced and slows down the pacing.
Instead of building tension, these changes make the film feel uneven. The tone shifts between horror, dark comedy, and exaggerated drama, but it doesn’t always balance these elements well. By the end, the film feels more exhausting than thrilling.
Moments That Still WorkDespite its flaws, the film does have a few entertaining moments. Some of the action sequences are intense, and the scale of the final act is bigger than the first film. Some scenes deliver the chaos and dark humour fans expect, but they are not enough to fully save the experience.
Final VerdictReady or Not 2: Here I Come feels like a sequel that exists more because it can than because it should. While it offers bigger stakes and a few fun moments, it lacks the sharp storytelling and originality of the first film.
If you enjoyed the original, you might still find parts of this entertaining. But if you’re looking for something fresh or more meaningful, this sequel may leave you wanting more.
