Mangaluru/Udupi: Several parts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts received good rainfall on Thursday evening, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting more rain accompanied by thunderstorms over the next three days.
In Dakshina Kannada district, rain was reported from areas including Gabbaladka, Mulleria, Bellippadi and surrounding parts of Beltangadi after Thursday evening.
Mangaluru recorded a maximum temperature of 33.8 degrees Celsius, which was 0.3 degrees below normal, while the minimum temperature stood at 24.7 degrees Celsius, 0.1 degree above normal.
According to the IMD forecast, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts are likely to receive good rainfall with thunderstorms over the next three days. Winds with speeds of 30 to 40 kmph are also likely, the weather department said.
In Karkala and Hebri, intermittent rain continued on Thursday evening as well. Moderate rain was reported till late night in areas such as Mala, Eedu, Bajagoli, Ajekaru and Andaru in Karkala.
Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds were reported in and around Hebri, Shivapura, Someshwara, Kabbinle, Mudradi and Muniyalu.
Residents said that due to the absence of proper drains along the national highway, rainwater flowed onto the roads in some places, causing inconvenience to vehicular movement. With four-lane road work under way in certain areas, roads have been dug up, and several large trees are said to be on the verge of falling. The public has urged the authorities to take immediate action, as there is a risk of trees being uprooted during strong winds and rain.
In Udupi district, moderate rain was reported across the region on Thursday evening. Rainfall was recorded in Udupi city, Manipal, Malpe, Brahmavara, Kundapur, Byndoor and Karkala. The weather remained cloudy from the afternoon, followed by rain in the evening.
Kundapur and surrounding areas also witnessed good rainfall accompanied by thunder for some time on Thursday evening.
Rain was reported from Kundapur, Siddapur, Shankaranarayana, Hosangadi, Belve, Goliyangadi, Kollur, Jadkal, Mudoor, Selkodu, Vandse, Chittoor, Basrur, Hallihole, Ajri, Amparu, Balkur, Tekkatte, Kumbashi, Kedur, Korgi, Bijadi, Gopadi, Koteshwar and Halady, covering most parts of Kundapur taluk.
The evening rain affected temple chariot festivals in places including Basrur and Bagwadi, while night-time festivities such as Gendotsava and Yakshagana performances were also disrupted in some areas.
