Messi will aim to defend the FIFA World Cup title with Argentina, while Ronaldo will look to win his maiden title in the 48-team global tournament, which will begin on June 11 in the USA, Mexico and Canada. Argentina are placed in Group J of the tournament along with Algeria, Austria and Jordan, while Portugal will square off with Colombia, Jamaica and Uzbekistan in Group K.
Messi is currently playing for Inter Miami in the MLS. Ronaldo has suffered an hamstring injury while playing for Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League and was left out of Portugal’s squad for the World Cup warm-up matches against Mexico and the United States.
Portugal head coach Roberto Martínez said in the press-conference that Ronaldo is not at risk of missing the FIFA World Cup and will be back in the next two weeks. He has also posted a picture of himself on X, training and recovering from the injury.
