Matt Fitzpatrick will head into the Masters on cloud nine after backing up his first PGA Tour victory in three years by announcing that he is expecting a new addition to his family. The English golf star and his wife, Katherine Fitzpatrick, have revealed that she is pregnant with their first child.

Fitzpatrick, 31, claimed victory at the Valspar Championship last month and will certainly head to Augusta in good spirits, in the knowledge that any good performance is set to benefit an extra body in the future. The 2022 US Open winner highlighted his wife's post on Instagram.

Katherine said: "We can’t wait to meet our baby." She accompanied the message with two black-and-white photographs of her and her husband, Matt, highlighting her bump.

Fitzpatrick's spouse credited the partner of Xander Schauffele, Maya, with taking the photographer she shared to the world.

It's been an exciting week or so for the Fitzpatrick family, with the star's brother, Alex, taking his first DP World Tour title at the weekend. The 27-year-old produced a stunning final round to claim a two-shot victory at the Hero Indian Open.

The pair became the first brothers to win in back-to-back weeks across the PGA and DP World Tours. "I idolise him. I'm just trying to be like him in every way," said Alex.

"It can be hard sometimes when you're constantly chasing someone's accolades but luckily it's my brother so it's not horrific."

The younger brother revealed he was set to meet up with his brother following their success. "I will see my mum and dad [on Monday] and we are going to meet my brother in Florida. It has been a good few weeks for the Fitzpatricks," he said.

"It's extremely nice to join [Matt] in the winners' ranks and hopefully I can continue to push on. I will celebrate with a glass of Coca-Cola, call my friends and family and let it sink in.

"It has been a lot of hard work for a long time and I have a lot of people to thank for this. I am over the moon and am probably going to cry. I am ecstatic.

"At no point today [did I think I had the win]. I asked my caddie how many putts I had from six feet so I think that says it all.

"I am mentally exhausted. It's a challenge out here and I am happy to come out on top."
