If there is one voice that genuinely raised all of us, it is Alka Yagnik. From Tip Tip Barsa Paani to Agar Tum Saath Ho, her songs have been on loop at every birthday party, road trip, and late night cry session I can think of. So when she opened up about her health struggle back in 2024, nobody was prepared for it. Now her latest update is proof that recovery is taking far longer than any of us hoped.
In a recent exclusive interaction with NDTV, Alka Yagnik confirmed that, despite nearly two years of recovery, she is still unable to return to the recording studio or accept new singing assignments. The health crisis first came to light in early 2024 when Alka Yagnik suffered a sudden, total loss of hearing after stepping off a flight. The scare first hit in early 2024 when Alka Yagnik stepped off a flight and suddenly could not hear a thing.
She first broke the news through a heartfelt post on Instagram, where she described the episode as a completely unexpected and major setback in her life. Speaking to NDTV, Alka Yagnik described the journey as a difficult phase that has required immense patience. While music directors and composers continue to reach out to her with new projects, she admitted that she is simply not able to take them up, choosing her long-term rehabilitation over professional commitments.

Even through this tough phase, there has been a beautiful silver lining. Even in the middle of all this, 2026 quietly delivered something truly special. Alka Yagnik was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian honour, a recognition that feels long overdue for someone who has literally scored the background music of our lives. During her NDTV interaction, she shared that her daughter Syesha was the first to break the news to her. She received it with quiet grace, and honestly, it could not have gone to a more deserving voice.
Alka Yagnik also used the platform to caution the younger generation against the constant use of headphones and prolonged exposure to high-decibel sounds, warning that it can lead to irreversible auditory damage. I am rooting for Alka Yagnik’s full recovery and truly cannot wait to hear that iconic voice again.
