Rory McIlroy will soon set out to defend his Masters title at Augusta National and battle it out against 92 other players to once again wear the green jacket. One more place remains up for grabs for the tournament, with the rest of the startlist preparing to get underway on April 9.
The remaining entrant to the Masters will be the winner of the Valero Texas Open, after five players grabbed late call-ups at the Texas Children's Houston Open on Sunday. Gary Woodland earned a five-shot victory for his first PGA Tour title since the 2019 US Open and will make his way to Georgia and be joined by Daniel Berger, Jake Knapp, Nicolai Hojgaard and Matt McCarty after they stayed inside the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR).
Following his win, Woodland said: "Obviously your goal out here is to play in major championships. My exemption ran out a year ago.
"I haven’t been in the other three majors from an exempt standpoint outside the US Open from my win. Playing my way back in, I know this gets me in the Masters, I know it gets me in the PGA. I’m looking forward to that, I can tell you that."
The current top 50 are combined with the top 50 from the previous calendar year for entry into the tournament, while previous winners hold a lifetime membership and other major winners from the last five years also have a place secured.
