Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has urged the Chelsea owners to back Liam Rosenior.

The Blues boss enjoyed a brilliant start to life at Stamford Bridge, winning seven of his first 10 games in charge. But, having since crashed out of the UEFA Champions League and fallen to sixth in the Premier League, he's under pressure to prove himself a worthy replacement for Enzo Maresca.

Speaking to football.london, Hasselbaink insisted that Rosenior needs time to implement his ideas. On whether the 41-year-old will be a success in west London, the Chelsea legend said: "Oh yeah! I think he’s good enough. I think he’s good enough.

"He knows his football, but, as I said, it’s a result-based game. Did the club think that Maresca was going to go when he did? I don’t think that they did, and I don’t think that they were set up for that.

"Were they ready for that? I don’t think so, but here we are. They’ve given, very bravely, somebody like Liam the job. When you do that very bravely, you need to give him all the chances to succeed.

"You really need to give him all the chances to succeed and give him all the time. If things are going a little bad, or he has a bad spell, you need to give him time because everybody is going to get that.

"You need to take as much pressure away from him. I don’t know if that is possible, but internally, you need to really make him feel and know that he’s the man, and he’s going to go nowhere, so that he can do his job the right way.

"That’s the only way I think he will succeed. But I do think he has got the ability. He knows football. Tactically, he’s okay."

Rosenior has previously revealed that he and the club are already exploring ways to bolster the squad in the summer transfer window. But before Chelsea welcome any new faces to Stamford Bridge, Hasselbaink believes the Englishman just needs time to get his feet under the table.

"Time, but time in football you’re buying," said the former Netherlands international, who featured 117 times for the Blues. "I think they need to really make him understand that he’s the man and they’re going to give him as long as they can in the job.

"Obviously, you need results, but the players need to know he’s going to be there because when players know that he’s going to be changed, that body language and their way of being is just different.

"When they know, ‘This manager has got the power to do everything and put me on the bench’, players react differently. It’s just a fact. They have to really back him, verbally, going out, but also internally.

"I think they’re doing that. I think that they are doing that. You cannot keep on changing managers, managers, managers. You cannot keep on doing that.

"I think if he can be there for years, we will have lots of success..."
