New Delhi: Mumbai Indians (MI) opener Rohit Sharma broke multiple records with a 78-run knock in the IPL 2026 match against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, March 29.

The veteran smashed his fastest IPL fifty in 23 balls with the help of five maximums and three boundaries. His previous fastest was 25 balls against CSK in the 2015 final at Eden Gardens. Rohit also completed his 50th fifty-plus score in the IPL and became the third Indian batter and fourth overall to achieve the milestone.

Rohit breaks multiple records

He also surpassed David Warner’s tally of 1093 runs for the most runs against KKR in the IPL. Rohit has now scored 1161 runs across 37 IPL matches against KKR. He has smashed six fifties and a hundred against the Knight Riders. Rohit is followed by David Warner, Virat Kohli (1021), Shikhar Dhawan (907) and Suresh Raina (829) in the list of most runs scored against KKR.

Rohit Sharma also created history by becoming the first Indian batter to hit 550 maximums in T20s. He needed 3 sixes to achieve the milestone and completed it in the 5th over of the 221-run chase against KKR. Chris Gayle tops the list of most sixes in T20s with 1056 maximums. Kieron Pollard is placed in second position with 982 maximums.

Last year, Rohit became the second batter in IPL history to score 7,000 runs after Kohli (8,730). He now has 7124 runs in 273 IPL matches at a strike rate of 132.61. Chasing a daunting 221-run target against KKR, Rohit scored 78 runs off 38 balls with the help of six maximums and as many boundaries. He forged a 148-run partnership with Rickelton for the opening wicket and was removed by Vaibhav Arora in the 12th over.
