New Delhi: Mumbai Indians (MI) pulled off their highest successful chase in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to beat the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by six wickets in their opening game of the 2026 season at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, March 29. MI registered the highest successful chase by any team at the Wankhede to end their opening-match losing streak in the IPL after 13 years.
The five-time champions, who are known to be slow starters in the league, last won their opening game of the IPL season in 2012. They had since lost 13 consecutive opening matches in the IPL. However, Hardik Pandya & Co. ended the curse in style at the Wankhede on Sunday with a record chase of 221 runs against the Ajinkya Rahane-led KKR.
