New Delhi: While the recently released film ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ is in the news in terms of earnings at the Indian box office, a different kind of controversy has also emerged regarding it. There is a heated debate going on among the editors on Wikipedia regarding the film, in which the differences regarding its description are deepening.

Some editors want to present the film as an action-thriller, while others insist on calling it a “propaganda film”. This controversy grew so much that Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales himself had to intervene.

‘Propaganda’ debate on Wikipedia page

A dispute started among the editors on the Wikipedia page of the film ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ regarding the fact that in the introduction of the film "Publicity"Whether the word should be added or not.

Based on allegations from some critics and commentators, some editors have "promotional film"While stating this, it was written in the opening line-"Dhurandhar: The Revenge is a 2026 action-thriller promotional film."

Constant changes and edit wars

However, this description did not last long and soon "Publicity"The word was removed. After this, a period of continuous changes and re-editing started on the page, due to which the conflict between the editors increased.

Different parties modified the page according to their interpretation, which further deepened the dispute.

Page returned to neutral description for now

After several rounds of discussion, Wikipedia removed the “Propaganda” tag from the film’s introduction and adopted a neutral description.

Now it is written on the page that “Dhurandhar: The Revenge is a 2026 Indian Hindi-language espionage action-thriller film written and directed by Aditya Dhar.”

Page locked

Due to the controversy, Wikipedia has locked this page under “extended strong protection”. This means that now only experienced and verified editors can make changes to it.

Despite this, the debate has not stopped completely and both sides are giving their respective arguments.

Jimmy Wales intervention

Founder Jimmy Wales intervened amid the growing controversy on Wikipedia. His focus was on maintaining Wikipedia’s neutrality principle (NPOV) rather than giving an opinion for or against the film.

He clarified that it is not right to present any disputed claim as fact.

He said, "Not at all – taking sides in a debate by saying something controversial in the very first sentence of an article is completely inappropriate. Avoid presenting seriously disputed claims as facts."

Clarification given on Wikivoice also

Jimmy Wales also clarified that Wikipedia’s "wikivoice"Cannot take sides on a controversial topic, especially when reliable sources disagree.

He said, "I think the level of publicity mentioned in the source is appropriate to include in the main section, but obviously not in WikiVoice, which in Wikipedia should be reserved almost exclusively for cases where there is widespread consensus in the community, which is clearly not the case in this case."
