New Delhi. A passenger of India’s most premium train Vande Bharat Express had complained about getting spoiled food in the train. Indian Railways has taken very strict action on this. On one hand, Railways has terminated the contract of the company. On the other hand, Railways has imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on IRCTC and Rs 50 lakh on the food service provider. Let us tell you that after the complaint of bad food in 21896 Patna-Tatanagar Vande Bharat Express, Indian Railways has taken strict action. Indian Railways has imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on IRCTC. A fine of Rs 50 lakh has been imposed on the food service provider. Railway investigation found that the complaint of insects being found in pulses and curd was true. Railways has also terminated the contract of the concerned company. On this matter, Railways says that any kind of negligence regarding the health and safety of passengers will not be tolerated. This action is part of the zero tolerance policy of Railways. This entire incident took place on 15-16 March 2026. That day, a passenger traveling in train number 21896 Patna-Tatanagar Vande Bharat Express had lodged a complaint regarding the quality of food. The name of the passenger who made the complaint has been given as Ritesh Kumar Singh, who is a resident of Patna. He was traveling from Patna to Jamshedpur with his companions. Ritesh Singh was traveling on seat number 71 of C-6 coach of the train. He was surprised to see the food served to him at night during the journey. The passenger alleged that the cleanliness and packaging of the food was very poor with insects being found in the dal served. After this the passenger lodged a complaint with the Railways and IRCTC.


After the complaint came to light, the railway administration immediately became active. An inquiry into the matter was ordered and all aspects to the quality, hygiene and packaging of the food were examined. The investigation report revealed that the food was not as per the prescribed quality standards. Hygiene rules were not followed, there were many serious flaws in the packaging. Railway officials considered this a direct threat to the health and safety of passengers.
