Chennai. Just before the start of IPL 2026, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) may have to suffer a big loss. Team’s veteran player MS Dhoni may remain out of the initial matches due to injury.
According to the official statement issued by the franchise, Dhoni is currently suffering from a calf strain and is undergoing rehabilitation. In such a situation, his chances of playing in the first two weeks of IPL are very less.
What is the injury and how many matches will you miss?
Dhoni’s injury is muscle , which takes time to recover completely. According to reports, he may miss the first 3-4 matches of CSK.
These matches include-
30 March vs Rajasthan Royals (Guwahati)
3 April vs Punjab Kings (Chennai)
5 April vs Royal Challengers Bangalore (Bengaluru)
11 April vs Delhi Capitals (Chennai)
It is expected that he may return in the match against Kolkata Knight Riders on 14 April.
Why big loss for CSK?
Even though Dhoni is no longer the captain, his experience is very important for the team.
His expertise in wicketkeeping-
Ability to finish matches in death overs
guidance to young players
His absence in all these aspects can affect the team.
Who will get the chance?
In Dhoni’s absence, CSK may have to make changes in wicketkeeping and middle order.
The team has options:
Sanju Samson
Urvil Patel
Karthik Sharma
Sanju Samson and Urvil Patel were seen keeping wickets in the practice session, which indicates that one of them will take over the responsibility.
Probable playing-11 (CSK)-
Ruturaj Gaikwad (Captain)
Sanju Samson
Sarfaraz Khan
Shivam Dubey
Dewald Brevis
Urvil Patel (wicketkeeper)
Prashant Veer
Noor Ahmed

Relief news-
The good thing is that Dhoni has not been out of the entire season. There is still hope for his return after completing rehab. CSK also sent a message – “Get well soon, Thala!”
