If you're looking for a place to enjoy a weekend away, there's one town that simply must be on your list. Located on the south coast of England, the town is famous for one historical event but it's gained a reputation as a pretty place to visit since then.
Hastings, in Sussex, is home to stunning beaches and a vibrant town - it's an ideal place for a spring or summer day trip. It's just an hour and a half away from London by train and you'll find plenty of things to see and do in the area while you're there.
On a blog called London Localite, one woman who grew up in Hastings has revealed what tourists should do first when they reach the town.
She says: "You could easily spend a full day exploring Hastings' Old Town - even though it's relatively small, it's packed with charm. George Street is the heart of it all, pedestrian only, picturesque and lined with lovely pubs, restaurants, and boutiques.
"It's especially magical on a sunny day when people are sitting outside with a pint, soaking up the atmosphere."
She adds that just around the corner, on the high street, you'll find independent shops and eateries to discover.
Hastings is best known for the Battle of Hastings which took place in 1066. Historians have debated where exactly the battle took place, but it did happen near to where the present day town of Hastings is situated.
Harold Godwinson had defeated Harold Hardrada at the Battle of Stamford Bridge on 25 September 1066. Three days later, William of Normandy invaded England, seeking to claim the throne.
William and Harold fought at the Battle of Hastings on October 14 and William was victorious -he was crowned King of England on Christmas Day, 1066.
Today, one of the best places to visit in the area is Alexandra Park which is a huge green space that's perfect for a stroll around.
One person who visited on Tripadvisor said: "A lovely space away from the throng of the town.
"Having just walked from the Old Town and into the not do nice part of the newer town we came across this open space. Lovely historic buildings and ... a lovely green open space."
But if you're looking to explore the seaside more, you should take a trip to Pett Level beach which is the perfect place to enjoy an ice-cream in the sun.
One person who visited on Tripadvisor said: "Absolutely loved this little find. It has become my favourite place, clean, fresh, peaceful, lovely walks and pet friendly with an amazing restaurant and bar and little cafe."
For a relaxing break by the coast, Hastings is a scenic place to enjoy a break this summer.
