New Delhi. The Uttarakhand government has decided to observe ‘Earth Hour’ on Saturday, March 28 from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm. During this time, residents of the state have been requested to switch off all non-essential lights and electrical appliances for one hour. The aim of this initiative is to promote conservation of natural resources, maintain environmental balance and raise awareness towards ensuring a better future for the coming generations. This campaign is being run as per the instructions of WWF India based in New Delhi.

The state government has called upon all citizens of the state to actively participate in this global environment initiative by switching off non-essential electrical appliances for a stipulated period of one hour. Earth Hour started in Sydney in 2007. What started as a symbolic switch-off has now blossomed into a global movement for the environment. Now people from all over the world participate in this effort of environmental protection in large numbers. In the year 2024, people of Delhi alone had saved 206 MW of electricity during Earth Hour. Similarly, in 2025, the people of Delhi had saved 269 MW of electricity during Earth Hour.

Collective efforts towards energy conservation

According to environmental experts, in view of the increasing threat of global warming, such small efforts together can bring a big change in the direction of energy conservation. In this way, positive results can be seen from this collective participation of the people in dealing with the challenge of climate change. This is an initiative that reminds us that positive work for environmental protection can be done even through small individual initiatives.
