Another airline has collapsed into liquidation following financial troubles.
This comes after the liquidation of Scottish operator EcoJet Airlines, alongside Royal Air Philippines entering administration and grounding all flights.
Indian charter operator Dove Airlines has now ceased operations after entering voluntary liquidation in January. The carrier was established in 2007 and was based in Kolkata. Dove Airlines chiefly offered business and private charter services from its Kolkata headquarters. It held authorisation to conduct non-scheduled flights and maintained a fleet that included a 2005-built Cessna Citation Jet 2, registered VT-DOV.
The carrier has not conducted flights since 2022 when it surrendered its final Cessna Citation Jet to creditors, according to The Street. Manufacturing firm Usha-Martin sold its 50 per cent shareholding in the carrier in 2015 owing to persistent financial losses.
The company was held in insolvency proceedings for years while attempts to secure fresh funding continued. Nevertheless, after these efforts proved fruitless, the carrier opted to enter voluntary liquidation proceedings under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI).
Mr Pranab Kumar Chakrabarty was appointed as the liquidator to supervise the distribution of assets and settlement of outstanding liabilities. Creditors and stakeholders were obliged to submit proof of their claims by February 4. "At its peak, Dove Airlines operated as a non-scheduled (charter) carrier, providing passenger and cargo services using regional aircraft like the Dornier 228," Insolvency Tracker reports.
"Despite ambitious mid-career plans to join the government's UDAN scheme for regional connectivity, the airline remained plagued by financial stress, grounded fleets, and legal disputes with aircraft lessors."
This follows Smartlynx Airlines being compelled to cancel all flights after entering administration. The Latvia-based firm had been trading since 1992 but was forced to halt all operations after enduring financial difficulties since autumn 2025.
Every aircraft was grounded following unsuccessful attempts to rescue the business. The carrier had built a strong reputation supplying European airlines such as easyJet, which would apply their own branding to the otherwise unmarked aircraft. In more recent years, the airline had even expanded its operations as far as India.
