In today's stressful lives, we don't take proper care of our bodies. At times like this, we tend to ignore even minor symptoms. However, a decreased heart rate can be serious if not detected in time. This condition is medically known as bradycardia.

According to experts, a healthy person's heart rate typically ranges from 60 to 100 beats per minute. Any rate below 60 is considered low. However, a low heart rate isn't always dangerous. People who are in deep sleep may have a lower heart rate.

According to Dr. Arun Kumar Ullegaddi, a cardiologist at Narayana Health City in Bangalore, a slow heart rate occurs when the heart is unable to supply the body with the required amount of oxygen-rich blood. This can lead to some obvious symptoms.

What are the symptoms?

Dizziness

Feeling very tired

Difficulty in breathing

Chest pain

Mental confusion.

Due to low heart rate

There are many reasons for a low heart rate. The main reason is a malfunction in the heart's electrical system, which causes the signals that control the heartbeat to malfunction.

Sometimes, a low heart rate can also be a side effect of medications taken for high blood pressure or depression. In such cases, an ECG or Holter monitoring is needed for a correct diagnosis.

According to doctors, there is no home remedy for this condition. However, if the heart rate suddenly drops and weakness or darkness appears before the eyes, the person should lie down in a straight position and raise their legs slightly, placing a pillow under them. This helps increase blood flow to the brain.

Additionally, the body should be hydrated. Sometimes dehydration can also cause irregular heart rate. In such cases, drinking ORS or coconut water may be beneficial.

Doctors recommend that if you're taking regular medications, you should immediately inform your doctor if you notice any changes in your heart rate. Similarly, you should avoid caffeine, tobacco, and alcohol.

Lifestyle changes are essential
for long-term prevention. Regular exercise, such as walking or yoga, helps keep the heart strong. Keeping your diet low in salt and fat and eating foods high in fiber are also beneficial for the heart.

If the heart rate is consistently low and is accompanied by difficulty in breathing or chest tightness, it is important to consult a doctor without wasting time.
