Since the beginning of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Orange Cap is being given to the batsmen who score the most runs in the season. The first season of this league was played in 2008, in which Australia’s Shaun Marsh, playing for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), won the title by scoring 616 runs in 11 matches. Apart from Marsh, Australian greats like Matthew Hayden, Michael Hussey and David Warner have also won this prestigious award.

Warner has been the Orange Cap winner maximum 3 times. He was the top scorer in the 2015, 2017 and 2019 seasons. Apart from him, Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli are the only two batsmen who have achieved this feat more than once. Gayle scored the most runs in the 2011 and 2012 seasons. Whereas Kohli remained at the forefront in terms of scoring runs in 2016 and 2024. Kohli had scored a record 973 runs in the 2016 season. Shubman Gill seemed to be getting close to his record in the 2023 season but he stopped at 890 runs only. See here the list of all Orange Cap winners so far:-
