Jammu. Now the thoughts of Shaheed Bhagat Singh will be included in the syllabus instead of Mohammad Ali Jinnah in Jammu University. In the recent meeting of the Board of Studies of the Department of Political Science, it was decided that Jinnah will be removed from the syllabus and Bhagat Singh will be added. In the meeting, no member objected to the names of Allama Iqbal and Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, hence their names will be retained in the syllabus.
This meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Chairman of the Department of Political Science, in which representatives of all the colleges affiliated to the university participated. The main objective of this meeting was to review the syllabus and make necessary amendments. During the discussion, there were in-depth talks on various issues, in which differences of opinion also emerged on many matters. According to one member, the head of the department made it clear that it is necessary to teach all types of ideas in political science. For proper understanding of a subject, it is important to know all its aspects.
For example, he said that to understand Ramayana, it is necessary to know the point of view of both Ram and Ravana. Similarly, political science cannot be taught in a one-sided manner. It is important to understand the ideas of leaders like Pandit Nehru, Sardar Patel and Subhash Chandra Bose as well as other ideas during the freedom movement.
Many members in the meeting expressed strong objection to keeping Jinnah in the curriculum. Some members also seriously discussed teaching Jinnah as a leader of minorities. After a prolonged discussion, it was finally agreed that topics to Jinnah should be removed from the syllabus. After this decision, the committee decided to include Shaheed Bhagat Singh in the curriculum.
It was decided in the meeting that Bhagat Singh would be taught from the perspective of independent India. At the same time, no one objected to the names of Allama Iqbal and Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, hence it was decided to retain both of them in the syllabus. The decisions taken in the meeting have been sent to the Vice Chancellor for final approval.
Earlier, in the Departmental Affairs Committee (DAC) meeting of the Department of Political Science on Sunday, it was also agreed to remove some subjects from the syllabus. The committee had recommended removal of topics to Jinnah, Iqbal and Sir Syed Ahmed Khan. This proposal was discussed in detail in the Board of Studies meeting held on Tuesday.
