Casemiro is reportedly on the verge of finalising his next destination, bringing an end to speculation that he could extend his Manchester United stay. His future has become one of the most discussed topics at United following the club's revival under Michael Carrick.

Despite announcing in January that he will leave when his contract expires in June, numerous supporters - and several of his team-mates - have urged Casemiro to sign an extension. It has subsequently emerged that this will not happen and the player will exit as planned. United reached an arrangement to cancel a clause in his contract. The Brazil international, who arrived at United in 2022 in a £60million transfer (plus £10m in add-ons), would have activated an automatic one-year extension had he started 35 Premier League matches this season. He is currently on track to surpass that threshold, which could have complicated his exit.

United have now agreed to waive the clause ahead of the summer. This means Carrick will be able to field one of his most important players as frequently as he wishes in the season's closing stages without concern of creating friction over his future.

The Manchester Evening News revealed this arrangement was finalised in January. Additionally, it is claimed that Casemiro is nearing confirmation of his next destination, which will be announced in the coming weeks.

The 34-year-old has featured in the starting XI for all except one of his 29 league appearances this season. This means he would have needed to start six of the final seven matches to reach his previous threshold.

This now appears to have been settled and gives Carrick the freedom to deploy one of his key players during the final stages of the season. The experienced midfielder will be keen to end his time at Old Trafford on a high, with the club targeting a return to the Champions League.

United are reportedly working intensively to identify Casemiro's successor ahead of the upcoming transfer window. It is one of several key decisions that the club are set to make, combined with the appointment of a permanent manager.

Casemiro has been linked with a return to Brazil or a switch to Saudi Arabia upon leaving Old Trafford. Major League Soccer clubs are also reportedly competing for his services as he prepares to head to North America for the World Cup 2026 this summer.
