New Delhi: Lamborghini has pushed back its plans to launch a fully electric car, clearing up earlier confusion around its EV timeline. The company’s chief, Stephan Winkelmann, told Autocar UK that a proper electric Lamborghini will now arrive only after 2030.
This comes after the brand noticed that demand for high-performance luxury EVs is still quite limited. Lamborghini had earlier planned to bring its first electric model, the Lanzador, before the end of this decade, but that plan has now been delayed.

Weak demand for such cars is the main reason behind this decision. Winkelmann had clarified that his earlier comment about EV investments being an “expensive hobby” was slightly misunderstood, but he admitted that the current market is not very favourable for niche electric sports cars.
He added that more buyers are now rejecting full-electric models in this segment, which could directly impact Lamborghini’s sales if it rushed into EVs. Other luxury brands, including Porsche and Rolls-Royce, are also slowing down their shift towards fully electric line-ups.
Even though Lamborghini delivered 10,747 cars globally and earned 3.2 billion euros in revenue in 2025, its profit dropped by 8.3 percent.

Lamborghini Lanzador back
Instead of going fully electric right now, Lamborghini will focus on hybrid models. The upcoming Lanzador will now arrive as a plug-in hybrid instead of a full EV. It will be a two-door car with space for up to four people and is expected to sit below the Lamborghini Urus in the brand’s lineup.
However, it may share parts with the Urus, including its twin-turbo V8 engine. Winkelmann also pointed out that engine sound is a big part of the Lamborghini experience, and recreating that in EVs is still a challenge. For now, the company is taking more time to get it right, while also planning to launch four new models in 2026.
