Royal Challengers Bengaluru have extended their support to pacer Yash Dayal, even as the franchise confirmed he will not be part of the squad at the start of the upcoming Indian Premier League season.

RCB Director of Cricket Mo Bobat stated that Dayal is currently dealing with a “personal situation,” adding that the franchise remains in constant touch and continues to back the player.

“Yash will not be joining the squad right now. He is going through a personal situation. We’ve been fully supportive, and he remains under contract. We will stay in touch with him,” Bobat said during a press conference.

Dayal’s absence comes amid media reports linking him to serious allegations, including claims of a relationship under false promises and exploitation. While a complaint has reportedly been filed and the matter is under legal review, there has been no official verdict so far, and the allegations remain unproven.

Despite the uncertainty, RCB’s decision to stand by the player has drawn attention ahead of the season.

Bobat revealed that the franchise had anticipated such scenarios during the auction. “We planned with a worst-case situation in mind, where he might not be available. Accordingly, we built a squad with enough depth and are confident in our options,” he said.

He also addressed concerns around the team’s pace attack, particularly with Australian quick Josh Hazlewood still working his way back to full fitness.

“Josh is currently undergoing a return-to-play programme in Australia. We are in close coordination with him and Cricket Australia. Once he gets clearance, we expect him to join us soon,” Bobat added.

Dismissing criticism about a weakened bowling unit, Bobat said, “We have a strong group of bowlers, and we’re not concerned.”

He highlighted domestic options such as Rasikh, Abhinandan, and Mangesh, noting that they have had solid preparation and are ready to step up.

Bobat also pointed out that player availability issues are affecting multiple teams due to a packed international schedule. “Workload management has become a major challenge. It’s not an exact science, especially with players switching formats frequently,” he explained.

On team selection, he said no final XI has been decided yet. “Our goal was to build a competitive squad with depth. Selection for the first match is still open,” he said.

Backing key players, Bobat expressed confidence in Phil Salt despite recent dips in form. “He’s among the best T20 batters in the world. We have full faith in his ability to deliver,” he said.

Looking ahead, Bobat emphasized a fresh start for the team. “We’re proud of last season, but this is a new campaign. Our focus is on starting strong and looking forward,” he said.

RCB will open their campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad, aiming to overcome early challenges and build momentum from the outset.
