Understand quality from the surface
The outer surface of the coconut also tells a lot. If it looks clean, soft and fresh, it is a good sign. If spots or dryness are seen then the coconut may be old.

If the upper part of the coconut looks fresh and slightly pointed, then it is good. Dry or shriveled parts indicate an old coconut.
