Lucknow. The 9-year tenure of the Uttar Pradesh government under the leadership of Yogi Adityanath has emerged as a comprehensive and impressive example of women empowerment. Policies based on these four pillars – security, respect, social security and economic self-reliance have brought women into the mainstream of development. Through schemes related to Mission Shakti, self-help groups and women entrepreneurship, women have now moved from the role of 'beneficiaries' to 'leaders'.
There has been a huge increase in the economic participation of women in Uttar Pradesh. Under the State Rural Livelihood Mission, more than 1.06 crore women have been linked to 9.43 lakh self-help groups. These women are now becoming the main force of economic activities in every village. At the same time, 35 lakh women were identified under the Lakhpati Didi scheme, out of which 18.55 lakh women have become lakhpati. This is a sign of major changes in the rural economy.
Women's participation has also been increased in the Public Distribution System (PDS). The operation of 2,682 fair price shops has been given to self-help groups. The women of these groups are now handling the work of ration distribution. This has not only increased transparency but also improved the income of women.
BC Sakhi model has created a new identity in the field of financial inclusion. These women have so far done transactions worth more than Rs 45,000 crore in rural areas and have earned commission of about Rs 120 crore. This figure may soon reach Rs 50,000 crore. Districts like Prayagraj, Bareilly and Shahjahanpur have emerged as leaders in this model.
Women have also made great achievements in dairy business. More than 3.5 lakh women of the state have become self-reliant by joining dairy through self-help groups. This has not only increased their income but also improved their social status.
The government has implemented several schemes for women and children, thereby strengthening social security.
Under Mission Vatsalya, social rehabilitation of more than one lakh children has been ensured by connecting them with their families. Under the Chief Minister Group Marriage Scheme, more than 5.20 lakh daughters were married, which provided financial relief to poor families.
The effect of the efforts of Yogi government is now clearly visible at the ground level. Women empowerment is no longer limited to just one scheme, but has become a widespread movement. From security to self-employment, women's participation has increased in every field, which has given new energy to the state's economy. Over the last nine years, policies, technology and effective implementation have made life easier for women. Today, women power has emerged as the biggest force for the “new construction” of Uttar Pradesh and this is the strong foundation of a developed state.
