News India Live, Digital Desk: Today, on the third day of Chaitra Navratri 2026, devotees are worshiping the ‘Chandraghanta’ form of Goddess Durga. According to the scriptures, Mother Chandraghanta is very fond of milk and the sweets made from it. If you also want to make something special to please your mother today, then ‘Makhana Kheer’ is a great and sattvik option. It not only tastes amazing but also keeps you energetic throughout the day during the fast. Let us know the step-by-step method of making it: Essential Ingredients: Makhana: 2 cups (bloated and cleaned) Milk: 1 liter (full cream) Sugar/Mishri: half cup (as per taste) Ghee: 2 tablespoons Nuts: cashews, almonds and pistachios (finely chopped) Cardamom powder: half teaspoon Saffron: 7-8 threads (soaked in milk) Method of preparation: Step-by-Step Guide1. Fry the Makhanas: First of all, heat 2 teaspoons of ghee in a heavy bottom pan. Add makhanas to it and fry on medium flame until they become crunchy. Take care that the makhana does not burn.2. Grind the makhanas coarsely: Take out a handful of the makhanas from the roasted makhanas. Grind the remaining makhanas coarsely in a mixer or break them with hands. This makes the kheer thick and creamy.3. Boil the milk: Heat 1 liter milk in a deep vessel. When the milk comes to a boil, reduce the flame and let it cook for 10-12 minutes so that the milk thickens a little.4. Mix makhana and dry fruits: Now add coarsely ground and whole makhana in boiling milk. Along with this, also add chopped cashews and almonds. Cook it on low flame until the makhana becomes completely soft and the milk reduces to half.5. Sweetness and Fragrance: When the kheer thickens, add sugar or string sugar to it. Also add saffron milk and cardamom powder. Cook it for 2-3 more minutes and then turn off the gas. Rules for offering to Maa Chandraghanta: After the kheer is ready, let it cool down a bit. Take out the kheer in a pure silver or brass vessel and decorate some pistachios and rose petals on top. Offer food to Maa Chandraghanta while chanting the mantra ‘Om Devi Chandraghantayee Namah’. It is believed that this offering brings blessings of mental peace and happiness and prosperity.
