Authorities in Barcelona have confirmed the death of James Gracey, a 20-year-old American college student who had been reported missing earlier this week. Police stated that all indications suggest his death was accidental rather than a result of foul play. Gracey, a junior from Elmhurst, Illinois, had traveled to Barcelona for spring break to visit friends. He was last seen after leaving a nightclub and did not return to his rental accommodation.

His body was located on Thursday at Somorrostro beach, near the Shoko club by Port Olímpic, where police had been conducting searches. The area was secured as law enforcement investigated the scene. Gracey was last spotted around 3 AM local time on Tuesday, having become separated from his friends, and that was the final contact anyone had with him.
