• Gold prices likely to rise ahead of Akshaya Tritiya due to tensions in the Middle East

  • Industry ready for sector volatility

India, March 2026: The All India Gem and Jewelery Domestic Council (GJC) noted that rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East could cause short-term volatility in global gold prices ahead of the Akshaya Tritiya shopping season; Which is likely to have an impact on jewelery prices and consumer buying trends in India.

Industry leaders noted that the Middle East, particularly Dubai, is a major global hub for bullion trading and a gateway for gold to Asian markets, including India. Any increase in this region could affect global bullion liquidity, disrupt supply chains and affect price discovery.

Despite potential price fluctuations, the Indian jewelery industry expects demand to remain steady, supported by the ongoing wedding season, strong cultural affinity for gold and the growing presence of organized retailers. As prices rise, consumers are opting for lighter gold jewelery and diamond-encrusted designs.

India remains a global leader in the diamond trade, with more than 90 percent of the total volume of diamonds processed here; With Surat and Mumbai as major hubs, they supply faceted diamonds to various markets in America, Europe, Middle East and Asia.
