Sara Ali Khan has landed at the centre of a fresh controversy after new entry rules were introduced at Kedarnath Temple and Badrinath Temple.
The Badri-Kedar Temple Committee now requires non-Hindu visitors to submit an affidavit affirming faith in Sanatan Dharma before entering the shrines.
As per the latest directive, anyone who does not identify as Hindu must provide a written declaration affirming their belief in Sanatan Dharma to access the temple premises and perform rituals.
BKTC chairman Hemant Dwivedi clarified that this rule would apply universally, including to public figures.

He specifically mentioned Sara Ali Khanstating that she would need to submit the affidavit to be granted darshan if she wishes to visit. Authorities have positioned the move as an effort to preserve the religious sanctity of the shrines ahead of the Char Dham Yatra.

Amid the controversy, an old remark by Sara Ali Khan about her visits to Kedarnath has resurfaced online. Addressing criticism over her temple visits despite not being Hindu, she had said that spirituality, for her, is deeply personal and not bound by societal labels. She emphasized that India is a secular country and that such boundaries are “created and manipulated by people.”
In a firm assertion of her beliefs, she had added that her trips to Kedarnath are about personal peace and happiness.

Sara Ali Khan has frequently visited Kedarnath over the years, often sharing glimpses of her spiritual journeys on social media. Her connection to the shrine dates back to her debut film Kedarnath. After which she continued making regular trips to the temple. Her visits have largely been private rather than publicity.

Sara Ali Khan has not yet responded to the new rule or the renewed scrutiny over her religious identity. However, her past remarks have resurfaced, sparking fresh debate on faith, personal choice, and access to religious spaces.
