Jal Jeevan Mission 2 Uttar Pradesh: A major initiative was taken on Wednesday to increase the availability of clean and safe drinking water in rural areas of Uttar Pradesh. An important agreement (MoU) was signed between the Central and State Government under Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0. This agreement marks the beginning of a new phase of the mission, which has recently received approval from the Union Cabinet. This MoU was signed by Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. It was completed through virtual medium in the presence of Patil and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that this agreement will play an important role in rapidly implementing the 'Tap water to every house' scheme. With this, water supply schemes can be implemented in a better way, within stipulated time and with good results. He said that this will directly benefit the rural families, who will now have easy access to safe and clean drinking water.
The Chief Minister described this initiative as an example of better coordination between the Center and the State. He said that this will strengthen both transparency and accountability in the schemes. Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said that now the goal of providing pure drinking water to every person is being accomplished rapidly.
The Chief Minister said that earlier piped water reached only a few villages, but now regular water supply is being ensured in thousands of villages. He also said that in areas where earlier serious diseases were caused due to contaminated water, the situation has now improved rapidly. Clean drinking water and better sanitation system have played an important role in controlling diseases like encephalitis, especially in eastern Uttar Pradesh.
The government's focus is not limited to just providing water to homes, but equal emphasis is also being laid on long-term smooth operation and maintenance of the schemes. Along with water supply, its care and maintenance system has also been strengthened in many villages, so that people continue to get water continuously.
The Chief Minister said that earlier this scheme was limited to limited areas only, but now it has been extended to all those villages where there was no piped water facility. Areas like Bundelkhand and Vindhya, where there was once a severe water shortage, are now providing tap water to every home.
Union Minister C.R. Patil said that quality, transparency and accountability are most important in the work being done under Jal Jeevan Mission. He appealed to the states that all the schemes should be made in such a way that they remain sustainable in the long run and people continue to get benefits. He said that this agreement will not only strengthen the drinking water system, but will also improve health, education and standard of living in rural areas.
Union Minister of State V. Somanna, Uttar Pradesh Jal Shakti Minister Swatantra Dev Singh and many senior officials also participated in this program.
