A well-known TV medic is receiving widespread support following a devastating disclosure on Instagram. Dr Amir Khan, who regularly provides health guidance across social media platforms and daytime television, works as an NHS GP.

He has previously discussed fraudulent AI-generated videos exploiting his likeness and voice to promote health products. Yet on this particular occasion, he shared a 'heartbreaking' clip demonstrating the real-world impact of these fabricated videos.

He said: "Team, I'm recording this video because I'm really angry. I don't often get truly angry, but I am now; I'm really p****d off. I spoke a few weeks ago about unknown people using my image and my videos, changing them with AI to sell nonsense - b******t drugs, medications, herbs, or supplements - claiming they cure various diseases. It is all nonsense. I've tried repeatedly to get these taken down, but they just keep reappearing.

"The reason I am particularly angry today is because of a poor man with end-stage prostate cancer. He has tried everything and been told there is not much more that can be done for him. Although he isn't registered at my surgery, he rang to speak to me because he had seen an AI video of me claiming to sell a treatment for prostate cancer.

"It got his hopes up as a last resort in the final stages of his life, and it breaks my heart. He went to the effort of finding where I work, ringing up, waiting in the queue, and speaking to one of our managers to ask if he could speak to Dr Amir because he'd seen me online saying I could cure prostate cancer.

"I cannot - that is not me. It is AI imagery, and this is the damage it causes. I don't care what this does to me, but I care about vulnerable people who trust my advice being targeted this way.

"I would never do this. Trust me: if it is not on my Instagram page - nowhere else - it is not me. If someone else is putting it up, it is not me, I promise. If it's not on my Instagram page, do not believe it. I am so sorry - and I know it isn't my fault - but I am so sorry for the vulnerable people who have been targeted."

Dr Khan's followers were swift to rally behind the GP, with Dr Megan Rossi, popularly known as the Gut Health Doctor, commenting: "This is so heartbreaking."

"Having known personally how heartbreaking this is and how you research all medical pathways and treatment, this resonates. How low can people go to make money," remarked another.

Someone else added: "Bless the beautiful soul who rang and bless you too... it must have been really hard for you both... there aren't many people who could handle that conversation and Im sure you did it with compassion and restored dignity for him. I HATE the web sometimes... actually often."

Another commented: "I feel your pain Amir. Words can't really express how sad I feel for the poor gentleman, who has prostate cancer, he's doing what anybody would do, fighting to live I'm glad that he reached out to you Amir, with compassionate words from you, that could just be what he needed, to be at peace."
