New Delhi: After witnessing major changes in weather patterns on Sunday, Delhi is set to get another windy and chilly day on Monday. The western disturbance has brought rains to the national capital, bringing much needed relief from the unusual March heat. While Sunday saw overcast skies, with light showers, similar weather patterns are expected to continue this whole week.
The IMD in its prediction said that strong winds and thunderstorms are expected to peak in the national capital by the middle of this week. The cooling patterns would thus become more powerful and would impact the weather for the rest of this month.
The weather department has said that overcast conditions would continue to prevail for an unspecified period of time in Delhi, as well as other places in the plains and the plateau. The wind speed is expected to be around 20 to 30 km/hr, and can in some cases go up to 40 km/hr.
According to the weather department, while Monday and Tuesday will see overcast skies, on Wednesday the skies will open up and a thunderstorm is also expected to hit the city. Light rains are expected on Wednesday, they added.
While the maximum temperature in Delhi will be around 34 degrees Celsius, the minimum will hover somewhere around 22 degrees Celsius. Chances of rain are less on Monday, as compared to the previous day (Sunday), according to IMD.
The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi is also likely to remain in the moderate category on Monday. The AQI is expected to range from 140 to 160, according to predictions.
The strong winds and showers expected in the city are expected to positively impact the air quality in the city. On Sunday the AQI in Delhi was 155, which falls in the ‘moderate’ category.
