Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai has called on his team-mates to 'wake up' after sleepwalking into a 1-1 draw at home to Tottenham. Szoboszlai, 25, had put Liverpool ahead with only 19 minutes on the clock, but Arne Slot's side failed to build on their lead and were made to pay in the dying embers.

Former Everton star Richarlison popped up with the late equaliser for Spurs, who earned a huge point and ended their run of six consecutive defeats in all competitions. The result leaves Liverpool in fifth place, having missed the chance to leapfrog Aston Villa in fourth.

Although the Premier League is set to have five Champions League spots for next season, Liverpool remain at serious risk of missing out with eight games to go. Chelsea are only one point behind the Reds while Brentford could move within two points if they beat Wolves on Monday.

Szoboszlai expressed his frustration in a post-match interview with Sky Sports, warning his team-mates that they could end up in the 'Conference League' next season. "A huge disappointment, I don't know what happened," Liverpool's goalscorer began.

"In the last minute, again, I don't know how many times this season already. We have to wake up. I feel flat. We have to wake up because if we carry on like this, we should be happy with the Conference League. I don't know why this is happening, I honestly don't know.

"I think in the first-half we played very well, we controlled the whole game and they hardly created chances apart from one or two headers. Second half we just didn't so the same things. We will sit down together, and this is the most difficult time, but we have to stick together."

The Hungary international also commented on the reaction at Anfield upon the full-time whistle. "I didn't hear the boos, but we can understand them," Szoboszlai admitted.

"We are not performing how we should. They should stand behind us because last season we became champions four games before the end everybody was happy.

"Support us in a difficult time. There is still time to show how much we want it, we have to stick together and fight for the club."

Liverpool will return action on Wednesday, hosting Galatasaray for the second leg of their Champions League round-of-16 tie. Failure to overturn their 1-0 defeat in Istanbul will see the Reds miss out on another trophy and only have the FA Cup to play for when it comes to silverware this season.
