Online address update in Aadhaar: Know the complete process


If you have shifted to a new house or the old address is registered on your Aadhar card, then you do not need to worry. UIDAI has provided this facility that you can update your address from your home through myAadhaar portal. For this you must have a valid address proof and mobile number linked to Aadhaar. Required Documents


UIDAI recognizes many types of documents to update address in Aadhaar. These include:



  • electricity bill

  • Bank statement or passbook

  • rent agreement

  • Passport

  • Voter ID


Your name and full address should be clearly visible on the document you submit. If the documentation is unclear or everything is not clear, your request may be rejected.


Steps to update address online



  • Go to myAadhaar portal.

  • Find the Document Update option and click on it.

  • Enter your Aadhaar number.

  • Verify identity with OTP received on registered mobile number.

  • After logging in, select the Address Update option.

  • Choose your method: through documents or through Head of Family (HoF).

  • Fill in the new address correctly.

  • Upload valid documents for address proof.

  • Submit the request after checking all the details.

  • After submitting, definitely save the Acknowledgment Receipt, which contains the 14 digit Update Request Number (URN).

  • You can track the status of your request through URN.

After submitting the request, UIDAI will check the details and documents provided by you. Typically, this process can last up to 30 days. Once the update is approved, you won’t need to go anywhere. You can download the updated Aadhaar card directly from the official website of UIDAI.
