Indian fintech major Razorpay has unveiled Agent Studioan artificial intelligence-powered platform designed to help businesses automate payment operations and financial workflows. The launch took place on March 12 at the company’s flagship event FTX 2026marking a significant step in Razorpay’s broader strategy to evolve beyond just payment processing.
Built using the Claude Agent SDK developed by AnthropicAgent Studio allows businesses to deploy specialized AI agents capable of managing routine commerce operations such as subscription payments, transaction recovery, and dispute responses.

Agent Studio functions as both a builder platform and a marketplace where businesses can deploy AI-powered agents tailored to their operational needs. These agents are designed to automate repetitive but critical tasks that often require manual effort from customer support or finance teams.
For instance, if a customer abandons a purchase during checkout, an AI agent can automatically initiate a conversation through voice or messaging platforms. The agent may ask why the customer left the checkout process and then send a payment link, reminder, or even a discount incentive to encourage the user to complete the purchase.
Similarly, AI agents can:
Retry failed subscription payments
Recover abandoned carts
Respond to payment disputes
Forecast cash flows
Manage subscription lifecycles
By automating these processes, the platform aims to help businesses reduce operational friction while improving revenue recovery.
According to Razorpay co-founder and CEO Harshil Mathurthe company’s long-term goal is to move beyond its traditional role as a payments infrastructure provider.
Mathur explained that Razorpay wants businesses to run core business logic directly on its platformnot just process payments.
Instead of being a backend tool used only for transactions, Razorpay aims to become a central operating layer for digital commercewhere payments, automation, financial operations, and customer engagement all converge.
This shift reflects a broader trend in fintech where companies are embedding AI to provide end-to-end operational capabilities rather than just financial infrastructure.
One of the key goals behind Agent Studio is to empower small and mid-sized businesses that may lack the resources to manage complex operational workflows.
Mathur noted that many growing companies often need to hire large teams to handle tasks such as subscription management, dispute resolution, and customer communication.
With AI agents, these businesses can automate such workflows instead of hiring 20–30 employees to manage them manually. This could significantly reduce operational costs while allowing founders to focus on scaling their businesses.
In practical terms, AI agents can function like digital employeesconstantly monitoring payment events and responding instantly to issues that arise.
To make automation seamless, Agent Studio integrates with several widely used commerce and business platforms. These include:
Shopify
Shiprocket
Slack
Tally
QuickBooks
These integrations allow AI agents to access relevant data across systems—such as order details, shipping updates, accounting records, and customer messages—so they can automatically execute workflows without human intervention.
Additionally, businesses can create custom AI agents simply by describing tasks in plain Englisheliminating the need for coding expertise.
While the platform currently relies on Anthropic’s AI infrastructure, Razorpay plans to expand support for multiple AI models in the future.
Mathur said that merchants will eventually be able to choose different AI models depending on their use casegiving them greater flexibility in building automated workflows.
This open-model approach could allow companies to select models optimized for tasks such as customer conversations, financial forecasting, or operational automation.

The launch of Agent Studio also introduces Razorpay’s broader Agentic Experience Platformwhich aims to simplify how businesses onboard to Razorpay, integrate payment systems, and manage financial operations.
This initiative reflects a growing shift toward “agentic commerce,” where AI agents actively participate in transactions—handling customer conversations, completing payments, and resolving issues automatically.
If widely adopted, such platforms could redefine how businesses interact with customers and manage their financial operations, making automation a core layer of digital commerce.
