In the era of Digital India, the pocket of Internet users is going to be tight again! It is known that the Modi government is planning to impose an additional tax on the use of mobile data. If so, mobile users will have to pay extra for tax per GB of data.
According to media sources, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is looking at the matter of imposing additional tax on mobile data. Looking into whether it is possible to tax in this way? This information has emerged from a review meeting of the Telecom Department. After that, according to media sources, the Union Ministry has informed that they are looking into the issue of implementing this tax in depth. Is it possible to apply tax like this? If implemented, in what manner will it be effective?
Initially, it is known that if additional tax is applied on mobile data, tax may be imposed by 1 rupee per GB of data. Needless to say, if this process becomes effective, the cost per data will go up significantly for customers. Currently, the government levies 18 percent tax on mobile recharge and postpaid bills. In this case customers will have to pay more tax separately. Even though the final decision has not been taken yet, it is being claimed that 22,900 crore rupees will be collected by the government through this method. However, the government has not yet officially commented on the matter.
Note that India is among the countries in the world where mobile data is much cheaper. Mobile data usage in the country has increased tremendously due to low cost. Video streaming, social media, online games and watching reels have grown tremendously in the country.
