Chikkamagaluru: An unusual incident highlighting the poor condition of government buses was reported in Karnataka’s Chikkamagaluru district, where a farmer tied his towel to a broken bus seat to make it usable for passengers.

The bus, belonging to the Chikkamagaluru depot and operating on the Mysuru route, was travelling towards Hassan when the incident occurred. One of the seats in the bus was completely broken, making it difficult for passengers to sit on it.

Due to the bus’s movement, the damaged seat kept shaking, and passengers avoided sitting there as they feared falling.

A farmer who boarded the bus noticed the condition of the seat. He took the towel from his shoulder and tied the broken seat firmly to a nearby rod to prevent it from moving. After securing the seat, he sat there and continued his journey.

Passengers said that when the farmer got down from the bus, he did not untie the towel. He reportedly left it there so that others could also use the seat, treating it as a small “gift” to the government bus.

Passengers express concern

Other passengers who witnessed the incident expressed concern over the condition of public buses. They said that while free travel schemes are being implemented, the condition of buses remains poor.

Passengers said that if the seats are already in such a condition, they worry about the condition of the engine and hope that buses do not break down midway during the journey.
