Mumbai, March 13. The Cyber ​​Cell of the Northern Regional Division of Mumbai Police has busted a major cyber crime network and arrested a 25-year-old POS (Point of Sale) agent. According to the police, these SIM cards were used in many online fraud incidents across the country. Police officials said that the accused has provided more than 300 SIM cards to cyber fraudsters by misusing the Aadhar cards of different people.

The arrested accused has been identified as Kamal Pukhraj Kuldeep. He worked as a POS agent for private telecom companies Airtel and Vi. Investigation has revealed that Kuldeep misused the Aadhar card information of many people and got a large number of SIM cards issued and passed them on to cyber criminals. Through these SIM cards, fraudsters used to call people and commit fraud in various ways.

During the police investigation, a case came to light in which cyber criminals faked a ‘digital arrest’ using a SIM card issued by Kuldeep. The fraudsters, posing as officers of law enforcement agencies, intimidated an elderly man and pretended to interrogate him online in the name of alleged investigation. During this, the elderly man was told that his name had come up in a serious case and he would have to cooperate immediately, otherwise he could be arrested.

The victim, under fear and pressure, transferred around Rs 29 lakh to different accounts. Later, when he became suspicious, he lodged a complaint with the police. After investigation, the police reached the cyber network and traced the source of the SIM card and arrested POS agent Kuldeep. The complainant is a 66-year-old resident of Goregaon, who is a retired Assistant Officer from the Accounts Department of Western Railways.

Police are now trying to find out how many more SIM cards the accused issued and who are the other people associated with this gang. The police have appealed to the people not to transfer money out of fear of any unknown call or online inquiry and to immediately report any such incident to the cyber cell.
