Recently, “Digital Marauder” A dangerous new malware has emerged. This malware specifically targets Android users and can steal money from their UPI accounts. The special thing is that unlike old banking scams, it does not cheat users through calls or messages, but silently takes access to their mobile devices.


What is ‘Digital Lutera’ malware?


According to tech reports, this malware was first reported by Gadgets360. It doesn’t work like typical online fraud, in which scammers call or text users to click on a link.


“Digital Marauder” There is a fraud toolkit that can bypass UPI bank account verification and SMS-based OTP verification. This malware is installed on the phone through an APK file and can access data without the user’s knowledge.


How does this dangerous malware work?


This malware mostly spreads through APK files. When a user downloads an APK file from a suspicious link, it gets installed on his mobile phone. During installation, the app asks for permissions to read and write SMS. As soon as the user gives this permission, the malware gets activated in the background. Then it can read the banking verification message and OTP received on the mobile phone. Using this information, hackers gain access to the user’s bank account and transfer money.


What did NPCI say on this matter


National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the organization that runs the UPI platform, has given clarification on this matter. NPCI says that reports to this malware have been analyzed and the UPI system already has enough security measures in place to protect the users. Still, users are advised to exercise caution to avoid any kind of digital fraud.
