Amid tensions in the Persian Gulf, the Indian government has prioritized the safety of 28 Indian-flagged ships and the sailors aboard them. The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways clarified that all these are being monitored.

Of these, 24 ships are west of the Strait of Hormuz, where 677 Indian sailors are deployed. Four ships are in the eastern part, with 101 sailors on board. This is part of the delivery security strategy.

The Indian Embassy, local authorities, ship operators and recruitment agencies are in constant coordination to ensure that seafarers remain safe and receive medical assistance. DG Shipping’s advisory of February 28 is still in effect.

Ports across the country are running smoothly. SOP has been issued for major ports and state maritime boards. Nodal officers are the single point of contact, who are immediately resolving the problems of shipping companies and exporters.

LPG ships are ordered to have the primary anchorage facility. Middle East cargo is getting relief like transshipment storage, additional space, temporary berthing, custom expedite and fuel increase.

Ports are coordinating with Customs, DGFT, considering duty exemptions and sending daily reports. Coordinated measures on infrastructure, finance, energy security and ship protection are keeping logistics strong.
