The smart prepaid system will be fully implemented in the state from March 13. During this period, if the balance in the smart prepaid consumer’s account becomes zero, the power will be automatically cut. So far, about 77.10 lakh smart meters have been installed, out of which 70.44 lakh are prepaid smart meters. The work of installing smart meters is going on at a fast pace in the state.



The Corporation has directed to fully implement this system from March 13. After this date, if the balance in the prepaid smart meter consumer’s account is exhausted, the power supply may automatically stop. Power Corporation has appealed to consumers to keep recharging their accounts from time to time and maintain a positive balance. Recharge can be done at home through digital means like UPPCL website, mobile app, BHIM, PhonePe, Google Pay etc.


Recharge facility is also available at departmental counters. Smart meters will facilitate accurate wills, less human intervention and regular will receipts. Apart from this, prepaid smart meter consumers are also given the benefit of 2% discount in electricity bill.


In this sequence, Ajay Prakash Gupta, Junior Engineer of Sub Station Kachnarwa under Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited Pipri, has requested all the respected smart meter consumers to deposit their negative balance immediately, otherwise the supply will be disconnected from the meter due to which consumers may have to face problems.
