Understanding Aadhaar Card Updates

Aadhaar Card Update: In today's digital age, the Aadhaar card serves as a crucial element of our identity, both online and in financial matters. However, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) enforces strict rules regarding updates to the Aadhaar card. Certain details can only be modified once in a lifetime, making it essential to ensure accuracy. A minor error could impede access to government benefits and banking services. Let’s explore the specific details that can be updated only once.

1. Date of Birth
Should your date of birth be incorrect on your Aadhaar card, you are allowed to update it only once throughout your lifetime. This process necessitates the submission of valid documents, such as a birth certificate or passport. Typically, a second request for an update is not entertained unless exceptional circumstances are demonstrated.

2. Gender
Changes to gender information on the Aadhaar card are also restricted to a single update during your lifetime. To make this change, you must provide a government-issued ID, medical or legal documentation, or other relevant proof that verifies your identity and the accuracy of the information. UIDAI will only accept these changes if the submitted documents are clear and the information can be reliably matched.

How Many Times Can You Change Your Name?
According to UIDAI regulations, the name on your Aadhaar card can be altered a maximum of two times. This policy is designed to prevent potential misuse of the Aadhaar database. Minor corrections, such as fixing a spelling mistake, can be made within these two allowed changes.
