The most-awaited and biggest T20 cricket league has arrived as the 2026 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to kick off from March 28. The five-time IPL champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is one of the franchises that will be looking to redeem themselves this season with some changes in their squad.

CSK has failed to make it to the knockouts of the previous two editions. They will be eyeing to kick off their IPL 2026 on a positive note; they have already prepared for the tournament. According to some reports, CSK players who featured in the recently concluded T20 World Cup will be joining the training camp soon.

A new season has arrived, but the limelight will remain the same this time, on the participation of MS Dhoni. It’s confirmed that MS Dhoni will be seen playing for the franchise this season, but it is not confirmed whether he will be playing as a player or as an impact player in the playing XI.

Meanwhile, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed that the former captain is all set to play all of the matches for the team in the upcoming edition. With the arrival of Sanju Samson in the squad, CSK have strengthened themselves in both top-order batting and wicket-keeping duties. However, with MS Dhoni and Sanju Samson in the playing XI, it is still not confirmed who will be taking the gloves.

CSK CEO didn’t reveal much information on this; instead, he said it is up to the management who they select for the wicket-keeping role.

As quoted by India Today, Kasi Viswanathan said:

"I can't say. That's a cricketing decision which will be taken by the cricketing staff, not by the administrative staff. They will decide whether he is going to play as a batter, or a wicketkeeper-batter or as an Impact Player."

Despite speculation about his IPL future, MS Dhoni has taken matters into his own hands, playing for the franchise over the last two seasons. Dhoni, 44, is currently looking fit and gearing up to play for this two-month-long cricketing season. MS Dhoni arrived at the CSK training camp in the first week of March and has been training hard since then.
