The NHS has shared a tip to help people get their prescriptions 'quicker'. The health service posted the recommendation on social media, and it could benefit anyone with a repeat prescription. Posting on X, NHS London explained there's a fast method for anyone who needs to request a repeat prescription, and you only need a phone.

As the health service explained, you can request your prescription through the NHS app. In the message, @NHSEnglandLDN said: "Request your repeat prescription quicker than you can say it. When it suits you. You can do more with the NHS App than you realise. Discover what else you can do today."

A repeat prescription is helpful for people who take medicine regularly, as it lets them order their medicine without seeing a GP each time they need it. According to the NHS website, there are three ways to order a repeat prescription from your GP surgery. You can do this by using your NHS account, contacting your GP surgery, or using other online services.

  • Dr Amir Khan message for people on lansoprazole, omeprazole, or pantoprazole

  • 'I died for an hour and saw my grandpa - but it wasn't really him'

The NHS app method is designed to be fast and convenient, allowing people to request their prescription whenever they need it. People can also use the NHS website.

The advice states: "You can order a repeat prescription using the NHS App or by logging into your account on the NHS website." If you're asked to choose a pharmacy, you can choose either:

  • A local pharmacy where you'll be able to collect your medicine in person when it's ready – some local pharmacies also deliver.

  • An online-only pharmacy, which sends your prescriptions to you in the post.

It adds: "You can choose a local pharmacy using the NHS App or your NHS account. If you want to choose an online-only pharmacy, you'll need to register with them through their website or contact them directly."

The NHS says to request the prescription up to five working days before you need the medicine. If someone runs out of their prescribed medicine and needs it urgently, they can get an emergency prescription through the 111 emergency prescription service.

Pharmacies and urgent treatment centres may be able to get your medicine for you. Go to A&E if it is an emergency.

More information about the NHS app is available on the NHS website, which explains how to log in and use its services. As well as requesting and managing prescriptions, people can use the NHS app to book and manage appointments, see test results, view vaccinations, and read messages.

To use the NHS app, you must be 13 or over and registered with an NHS GP surgery in England or the Isle of Man.
