At a time when beauty is becoming more personal than ever, one brand is turning that idea into a hands-on experience. Recently, Karibo Cosmetics brought its custom lipstick workshop to the Mumbai office of MissMalini, and what followed was part beauty class, part creative experiment, and entirely too much fun.

The session was led by Jasmin Shah Bajaj and Bhakti Bhanushali’s team, who have been building Karibo into a brand focused on personalised beauty. Bhanushali, also known for appearing on Shark Tank India Season 3, brought the brand’s interactive lipstick-making experience directly to the MissMalini team. Instead of simply testing products, the team got the chance to create their own lipsticks from scratch.
Karibo Cosmetics’ Is Turning Lipstick Into a DIY Beauty ExperienceThe workshop began with the most important step of the process: choosing the perfect shade. Rather than selecting from pre-made colours, participants got to mix their own pigments. Different tones and undertones were laid out like a painter’s palette, allowing everyone to experiment with colour until they found a shade that felt right for them. Some leaned towards warm pinks, others tried deeper berry tones, while a few experimented with bold reds.
The process felt less like traditional beauty shopping and more like stepping into a mini cosmetic lab. Each person had the chance to adjust the intensity of their shade, tweak the undertones, and personalise the formula according to their preference.

Essential Oils Added the Personal TouchOnce the colour was finalised, the next step involved adding essential oils. Karibo offered more than five different options, giving participants the chance to customise not just the shade but also the fragrance and feel of their lipstick.
Choices included tea tree, peppermint, cinnamon, and other aromatic oils. However, one option quickly became the clear favourite among the group. Vanilla turned out to be the most popular pick, with many opting for its warm, sweet scent that added a comforting touch to the final product.
This stage made the experience even more personalised. Each lipstick began to reflect not just someone’s preferred shade but also their fragrance preference.
From Pigment to Finished LipstickAfter selecting the pigments and oils, the mixture was blended thoroughly until the colour and ingredients were evenly combined. The next step was where things started to feel a little magical.
The mixture was gently melted and then poured into lipstick moulds. Within minutes, the formulas began to set, slowly transforming into fully formed lipsticks.
For many on the team, watching the product take shape felt surprisingly satisfying. What started as loose pigments and oils quickly became a ready-to-use lipstick.
The workshop highlighted a growing shift in the beauty industry toward customisation. Instead of one-size-fits-all products, brands are now exploring ways to let consumers create something tailored to their preferences.
Karibo’s lipstick session offered exactly that. It allowed participants to experiment with colour, scent, and formulation while also learning more about how beauty products are made.
By the end of the workshop, the MissMalini team didn’t just leave with new lipsticks. They walked away with shades they had personally designed, formulas they had helped create, and a beauty experience that felt far more memorable than simply picking a lipstick off a shelf.
