Nadiya Hussain has said she was once so burnt out while filming that she was rushed to hospital in an ambulance and has "never been so unwell in my life." The Great British Bake Off winner, who worked for the BBC for a decade, claimed there was "no one there" for her in a new interview.

After winning Bake Off in 2015, the presenter went on to become one of the BBC's biggest breakout stars with cooking and food shows, including Nadiya's British Food Adventure, Nadiya's Everyday Baking and Nadiya's Everyday Spices earning her a devoted fanbase.

Last year, however, the broadcaster cancelled the slate of shows, with the on-screen star revealing that she had not been given a "definitive" reason.

In a new interview with Closer magazine, the 41-year-old revealed she suffered burnout and spent the night in hospital.

"During the last series, I got so sick we had to call an ambulance," she told Closer magazine. "I ended up in the hospital overnight. It was a burnout - I've never been so unwell in my life."

She continued: "Now I don't have anyone breathing down my neck, there is a sense of relief. I don't want to work with people who don't see my worth."

Nadiya said that while "there's an idea that you're taken care of in the TV industry' it's actually 'quite the opposite".

"You're propped up so you're well enough to do your job," she said.

"I didn't drink caffeine before and didn't even particularly like chocolate, but it became caffeine, chocolate, a bit of eye cream, another layer of lipstick, a spritz of the face, fresh air -and back onto set."

She added, "I learned to cope with it and to keep going, but there's no one there for you when you crash."

Her comments after she claimed her BBC programme was quietly dropped last year after she'd raised a number of issues with producers about the format.

She later parted ways with her agent and manager and at the end of last year she started working as a teaching assistant in a local primary school.

Nadiya was forced to leave the role after just three months as she said her damaged immune system couldn't cope with the constant illnesses she was being exposed to.
